INTRO TO MODERN POINTED PEN CALLIGRAPHY

Join Samantha Testa, the owner of Painted Palettes, at Steadfast Supply for an afternoon of modern pointed pen calligraphy fun!
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN: In this two hour workshop, Samantha Testa will give you access to beginner pointed pen supplies, show you how to use all of them, and guide you through basic drills and practice sheets. One on one guidance will be provided to help you with the pen strokes, letterforms, and stylizing your writing. You will use these skills to create your own postcard set (because snail mail is making a comeback). There will be wine because the perfectionist in you needs to remember that this is a new skill and it may take some time to master :)
You will walk home with a personalized workbook containing several alphabet styles, nibs, an oblique nib holder, ink, Rhodia notepad, and a handmade postcard set, which will set you up for calligraphy success!
No experience necessary and all skill levels welcome. Keep in mind we will be getting basic supplies and guidance for the very beginner calligrapher! Actual quote from participant: "I think this is more relaxing than your Hand Lettering Class!"
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Samantha Testa is an artist living in Washington, DC. In her hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, her grandfather instilled a love of creating art that has lasted her entire life. In January of 2016 she made this love official and created her business, Painted Palettes. Since then, Samantha can be found teaching hand lettering workshops and she spends time painting commissioned artwork and expanding her growing line of prints and stationery. Sam loves puns, coffee, red wine, pickles, fresh flowers, 70-degree days, brand new markers, and the "little things." When Samantha studied abroad in Italy many years ago, she visited an artist's studio in Ravenna. Posted on the door of this studio was a simple sign. It said, "Life without art is stupid." She agrees wholeheartedly.
