Stitch Your Memories: Photo Embroidery for Beginners

  • Steadfast Supply - Entrance on Water Street SE 301 Tingey Street Southeast Washington, DC, 20003 United States (map)

Turn a meaningful photo into a one-of-a-kind embroidered keepsake — even if you’ve never picked up a needle before.

In this beginner-friendly workshop with Nichole Sorhaindo, founder of The Other Cat Creations, you’ll learn how to stitch directly onto a fabric-printed photo and transform a special memory into a piece of art you’ll actually want to display.

Think: your favorite photo of your dog, a moment with family, a place you love — elevated with texture, color, and hand-stitched detail.

In preparation for the class, Nichole will turn one of your selected photos into a ready-to-stitch project by printing it onto fabric and creating a custom embroidery pattern inspired by your image. You’ll walk in with everything prepped and leave with a piece that feels personal, creative, and completely your own.

During the workshop, you’ll learn:

  • How to embroider on top of a photo

  • Foundational stitches you can use again and again

  • How to add texture, detail, and personality to your piece

  • Simple ways to finish and display your artwork

Each attendee will receive:

  • One embroidery hoop

  • Needle

  • Embroidery floss

  • Fabric with your photo printed

  • A custom pattern based on your image

  • Step-by-step guidance throughout the class

Complimentary light bites and drinks will be provided.

Want to keep the creativity going at home? You can request a second photo embroidery kit to take with you (additional fee).

To prepare your project, please submit 3 photo options to Nichole at othercatcreations@gmail.com. One image will be selected and printed for your piece. Photo submissions are required at least 2 days before the workshop.

Spots are limited to keep the experience intimate and hands-on.
